FoOlRulez is recruiting in all branches.

Hello. If you haven’t been here before – where have you been? – I am Woxxy, the FoOlRulez blogger, projects coordinator, editor. Some call me “leader” for ease.

FoOlRulez is not in a pinch for new recruits, but recently new volumes of manga we used to scanlate are out, yet, this means our group is undersized. This is why we need a few new staff members in order to be able to sort out all the manga we intend to release.

A guideline for joining our group is not working for any other scanlation group. We’ll be enough to fill your time, and even make you concerned about doing things faster.

Translators

(currently we have 4, we want 2 more): we need people able to translate from Japanese to English, and on a pretty good level as well. This is because Spice and Wolf volume 3 is out, and we would like to keep scanlating it. Our previous translator guorbatschow is now busy and unable to translate newer chapters.
Other manga we need translators for would be Hantsuki. We were also thinking about taking up some other manga, if you’re up for translating “anything”. I can’t talk about it here as we’d have to talk it over with the other group who worked with it first. It’s cool stuff though.

Editors

(currently we have 4, we want 2 more): we plan on speeding up on releasing manga we already have translated and proofread, but we’re stuck a bit with our few editors. The manga we could need editors for are Hantsuki, Seto no Hanayome, Spice and Wolf, Nusunde Lilith, Kanokon (not all of them, you can pick one!). We are interested in people who worked before in scanlation groups or people with fairly good skills in Photoshop. We can keep up with our mangas with the editors we have now, though, it’s just not optimal.
There is a test for editors.

Proofreaders

(currently 6, we want 2 more): we’re extremely strict with proofreaders. Proofreaders should be pretty strict people in first place, but that’s just my stereotype. We want people who not only remove grammar mistakes, but even fix where the text sounds weird. We don’t need the standard English speaker, we need someone who’s extremely accurate and able to say “this script is ready”. Beware, the test is not easy.
There is a test for proofreaders. (though it’s going to take few more days to be ready)

To contact us

You must subscribe into the forum, and send me (woxxy) a personal message. The forum login is what we use to let you enter all our systems, so you would need it either way. Don’t mind me if I say that registering will be very little in front of our job to check your tests.

I don’t think I need to test YOU as editor. But just in case, I will make you do that, it’s a short test anyway.

Yes, you can take more than a test. Then in the group you can help with everything you want, we roam around a lot.

Edit: I saw you scanlated something yourself earlier on your website. I’ll check that stuff for now.

The fonts are a bit bad bit that’s easy to fix, it’s just giving you our standard fonts and so on. Also, bubble text is a little out of position. But that’s fixable as well with a bit of practice and our considerations.

You edited stuff outside the bubbles near to never, so I will need you to do the test. I’ll give you material tomorrow when I process all the mail I am getting.

I’d like to try out for “Leader” position, please. I believe I have all the qualities that define a good, if not, GREAT leader. Also, no offense, but the old leader, whathisface, he’s starting to smell funny.

Can I apply to be the leader of FoOls, please?

Not at all, but it helps when you want to figure out what a translator actually meant, which does happen sometimes…

Solid grasp of English though is an absolute requirement for obvious reasons.

Also… we have multiple people applying for a proofreader position, yet few for editor and no translators… I think this is pretty symptomatic of the whole scene.

      • Gingy says:

lol, no wonder so many people are signing up for proofreader. I was just asking out of curiosity. How come so many ppl are choosing this over the other positions. Because this is the only one that doesnt rely on you knowing tons of jpn.

Editors don’t know how Japanese either.

But an editor needs advanced computer skills.
A translator needs to know Japanese.
A proofreader needs to know English.

The last one has the highest chance of applicants. But I am fairly sure I speak English better than a lot of English people… and this is what we want not to happen with proofreaders.

You can’t just talk English to be a proofreader like we need.

Dammit. I really want to help you guys out (and myself in the process), but not only do I have no scanlating experience, I only have access to one computer and it’s probably way too slow for any scanlating purpose.
    Frustrating situation is frustrating.

  4. Bandages says:

I have no idea what you mean by advanced computer skills, so I’ll just assume I don’t have that. I can’t speak japanese, and my grasp of English is at most above average, so I’ll still at least try for proofreader, though now I think I’m not gonna cut it. If all else fails, I’ll join the cheering section :).

    • woxxy says:

Editors most often know how to do more than just editing. But all we need them to do is editing really.

As for your test, if you’re going to go through it, good luck with that.

  5. ZeroXH says:

Lul, forgot I had the wordpress login. @.@

    Anyways, proofreading isn’t as simple as many of you guys think. o-o;

You’d be surprised at the troubles, hassles and stuffs the proofers go through… D:

So, don’t apply to proof just cause it sounds easy, or with a half-assed heart! D<

  6. Johngray40 says:

Are the tests ready? I’ve been waiting for the editor and proofreader tests since your call for new recruits came out. >_>

    • Johngray40 says:

Edit: There’s a probable chance that I’ll fail both tests, but if theres any way I can help you guys then I’ll do my best!

  7. Woxxy says:

At the moment I am at the university and unable to create the necessary accounts. As I said in the PMs (hopefully I have answered them all) the test would be ready by Monday. Due to school, I have to postpone another two days. Most likely within 24 hours I’ll have sent the PMs and you guys will be able to do the job.

  8. Irzbos says:

I feel dumb considering i can’t find out how to make an actual account on this site or anything… Currently I am trying to decide if I want to do the proofreader test or not. Almost positive I would pass and would feel pathetic if i did not, considering I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature.

  9. Johngray40 says:

If you want to know how to make an account, click the “Forums” link found on the toolbar thing down the bottom and the click the register button found on top of the next page you see.
