Comic Market 78 Coverage (aka C78)

Heya,
Translator Necrophantasia is back. Let’s see if my posts are more interesting this time. Does anyone not know what Comiket is? For those who don’t know, Comiket is the largest anime/manga/doujin event in the world. No other event comes close. Comiket draws approximately 560,000 people together in the tiny event hall of approximately 0.23 sq km over 3 days (total population density of the event, approx. 2425575 ppl/sq km). The event happens twice a year, usually from August 13-15 (during the Obon holidays in Japan) and from December 29-31 (during the New Year holidays in Japan). The number denotes the number of times the event has been held. This year’s summer comiket happens to be the 78th time it’s been held. Without further ado, let’s get into the meaty portion.
If you’re close enough to see the inverted pyramids, chances are you were probably lining up from approximately 11:30pm the previous day.Usually, comiket means that you will be camping out and sleeping like a hobo on the floor for 3 nights. When you sit down and fall asleep there will be a line, when you wake up there will STILL be a line. Comiket is really a battlefield, a hell even. Not for the faint of heart.
My planning was all fucked up this year. I missed a day, and I wasn’t able to get together a good team similar to last year. As a result, I only obtained a portion of what I really wanted, nonetheless I got some items.
Yes Comiket is tiring… If you’re lucky and you have good friends, you may be able to get them to save your spot for you, allowing you to get a better spot to stretch your legs.
Ok, so after all that lining up outside, what do we do after we get inside. Why of course we line up!
It’s important to remember that Comiket is split into two distinct halves. One half is for corporate goods, official goods produced by publishers and animation studios, the other half (even more popular half) is for doujinshi (items made by fans and other independent studios). The doujinshi items are usually much more expensive because of the limited quantities in which they are made. They often go for 2x -10x their list price on auction and people will line up the night before or even immediately after the previous day’s comiket for these items. Each day’s doujin event also has a theme, i.e. day 1 is mostly BL, day 2 is mostly doujin games/touhou, day 3 is mostly porn and the most popular circles like Tinkle and T2, whereas the corporate booths have the same offerings every day, albeit with decreasing inventory.
Some snapshots of the corporate event hall for those who are interested:
Of course, Comiket also means cosplayers!
Well that’s it for cosplayers. I wasn’t able to get that many good pics because I was carrying about 30 pounds worth of stuff on my shoulders while I took these pictures and wandered around. Maybe I’ll dedicate myself to photos for one day. I couldn’t even bring my camera equipment because of the weight. Oh just a couple more things. Good smile company had a few previews of future figures on display at the Gift booth. I was able to squeeze in and snap a few shots. Anyone interested? Apologies for the shakey photos. I was wrestling Japanese people left and right while taking these pictures.
Okies, I’m done. Loot post next time? Who wants to see what I bought?

Dear God. Dat Rin.
Time to earn some money and become “random gaijin” next year… Who wants to donate?
Let’s say FoOlRulez is a bunch of journalists and get free pass at least!
Oh, that one with all the scissors
you should have posted pictures of what you got. and you should go to reitaisai for me, i’d even transfer the money and even leave you some pocket money for taking the trouble. >:
Sivert, if u give me the details of the event and a list of what to get and where to mail it to. I could possibly think about it.
I also do have a loot post lined up, but I was thinking of saving hat for my own blog. But maybe I’ll put t up here tomorrow too.

I’m thinking about doing a similar coverage on the Oktoberfest…
:P
So it looks like I don’t want to visit Japan during Comiket because no one will be anywhere ELSE, right? On second thought… sole use of the Ryokan and Ofuros… HHHhmmmmmm!
Comiket is only 3 days long. You can go to other places afterward.
