Just as easy as that. It will use our server in order to tell the visitors which anime to watch after submitting their MyAnimeList nickname. That is all.

We might be releasing newer versions, but actually this plugin is just a bridge to our server, which means we can change results directly without need of upgrade from your side. This is why the release version is already in “0.9″.

Go get it into the WordPress plugin repository:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ani-n-gin-anime-recommendation-system/

Anime recommendation system aNi-N-gin

Plugins

Scripts

aNi-N-gin is the FoOlRulez branded system to tell you which anime YOU should watch with the precision of a guy that doesn't mind a girl over 18 either.

What’s aNi-N-gin? The name I gave to this system. Nobody asked for it.

Anime Recommendation Engine
(it’s in the sidebar on the right)

Script & Algorithm: guorbatschow
Widget & (soon)Interface: woxxy

As long as guor doesn’t agree with me that it needs a weird name worth a mecha, this is the real name of this algorithm.

This system we are building in FoOlRulez is quite exceptional, because it has much more of a feature than the usual anime recommendation engine. Usually the scripts just go and tell that the people who watched this watched also that. Does this mean they liked it? No, it means nothing, out of plain lack of info. It’s not that simple, because people might have watched a mainstream anime, and just because it’s mainstream. Doesn’t mean it’s good. And basically no script tells what should YOU watch, but tells what should you watch if you watched that anime and liked it.

Here’s the deal. Just insert your nickname on MyAnimeList. Of course you need your anime list on there.

By gathering extra data than usual, aNi-N-gin (*cough*) is able to make a net of references in order to straighten the search, gets the ratings,

some say it asks if you’re a lolicon…

and outputs for you a list of ten animes you didn’t yet watch but that should reflect your preferences, by associating you with a list of people who rate the animes in a similar way as you do. This… I don’t even… I don’t exactly know which is the algorithm and I am not interested in checking that, really.

You can use the system in beta version straight away! You see the widget right here, at the right? Anime Recommendation aNi-N-Gin. Just try it out: the more people try the more precise it will become.

Remember: it works better if you rate your anime, the more info it can gather the better.

YOURLS widget released

Plugins

This widget lets you embed your YOURLS installation (or someone else's through API) to have a short URL service into your sidebar. If you are using a passworded admin menu you have to edit yourls-widget-config.php. Further info in FAQ section.

Installation

Upload the folder `yourls-widget` (keep the name intact) to the `/wp-content/plugins/` directory.

Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress.

Add the widget to your sidebar via the `Appearance/Widgets` menu.

Insert the URL to the API into the widget options. Example: http://yourdomain.com/yourls-api.php

If the YOURLS installation is in “private” configuration (with password to access admin) you have to enter the username and password in the yourls-widget-config.php file. Further info in FAQ section.

Frequently Asked Questions

The widget gives an “Invalid username or password” notice/ I have a private configuration of YOURLS (admin access needs password).

This happens because your YOURLS installation is private configuration.
To fix this you have to edit the yourls-widget-config.php and add user and password in the fields.

Example with username “user and password “password:

< ?php $username = 'insert_your_user'; $password = 'Insert_your_password';?>

becomes:

< ?php $username = 'user'; $password = 'password';?>

Let any website use my API even if I have password protected admin

To do this you have to edit your YOURLS API (yourls-api.php) and remove these lines:

if ( defined(’YOURLS_PRIVATE’) && YOURLS_PRIVATE == true )
require_once( dirname(__FILE__).’/includes/auth.php’ );

This will disable the password protection on the API, but will keep your admin menu passworded.
