Help us

FoOlRulez is huge, we’re really many people. Yet, we’re still too little to achieve some necessary things.

That’s why we ask the help of the community to do some work we can’t do ourselves. Here’s some ways you could help us.

Notice: we’re not related to Plumbah Inc.

Try becoming a member

basically NIGHTMARE MODE.

That’s the suicidal solution. If you want to lose your life over something, this is your chance. We steal your soul, and tomorrow will never come.

Well, actually we’re a quite solid group, and we respect the people’s timetables. As well, we expect members to tell when they don’t have time, so the machine doesn’t stop working. We’re also all quite experienced in working in a team, and generally love progress as much as “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it”.

We’re currently looking mainly for programmers, but we wouldn’t mind more editors and more proofreaders and translators. There’s plenty of work to do, and our aim is being able to do at least 70% of what we have left within one year, and stop taking up new projects until everything we have available is done.

Translate FoOlSlide

this is HARD MODE.

But it’s actually about having some spare time.

Unlike what one would expect from such a big group, we can translate from Japanese to English, but from English we can go only to German and Italian and few more. Most of us don’t have the time to do that, so we’d love to get some external help.

Translating FoOlSlide is really easy, you just need to register to transifex and then “Add Translation” in this page. It’s a bit more than 300 lines of text to translate, not much. Your translation will be used in all FoOlSlides, and readers will get the localized language for themselves.

Tell others about FoOlSlide

it’s awful to call this “Normal”.

There are many sites using still the old and deprecated FoOlReader. That piece of… well, do you know the Internet Explorer 6 story? There’s big corporations still obliging their workers to do things on IE6, and everyone, even Google and Microsoft are asking people to upgrade to anything else.
The same is happening between FoOlReader and FoOlSlide. FoOlReader must disappear!

There’s also groups not having a reader at all, because of the preconception that “readers are bad, people love downloading” which is plain false, considering by now more than 80% people on this site read online, even though we have direct downloads. That’s without counting the other 80%+ of readers that doesn’t come to FoOlRulez, which means that a very very tiny fraction of the readers cares about downloading.

Please, if you love some scanlator and they don’t have a reader, ping them about FoOlSlide. Do it gently. Express your wish for them to have a reader and give one or two reasons, not more, and don’t annoy. Most often they didn’t even consider it, because they think it’s hard to set it up.
Tell them I am available to help installing if they say it’s difficult, and available to install it myself if necessary.

WE CATCH YOU CHEATING (on your waifu)

I’ve very well expressed what we need the money for.

We rarely buy manga, we don’t make money with manga, we don’t want to put money in scanlation. We’re all old enough to be able to afford some hobby. Scanlation is somewhat a hobby, somewhat a necessity, quite illegal too, so we want to keep your money as far as possible from it.

Yet, we have a massive server, and that’s not really because we are scanlators.

FoOlRulez keeps up an infrastructure that sends and receives data and provides automatic updates to its software. This needs a lot of calculation power, a good server that doesn’t crash, backup system. In general a secure site, that can’t be brought down because of the ton of calls our software makes.
What’s best – or worse – we’re in rapid growth with our software, so it’s getting more and more taxing for us to keep up a good server, and we’re contemplating if getting a second one would be a wise choice.

In case you wish to donate for our cause, I’ll let you know that the average cost to keep up FoOlRulez is 40-50$ a month. The ads give an average of 25$ a month, the rest comes from some donations from the past.

We’ll be using from now on Pledgie, a platform to keep track of donations. That way you will be able to know much has been donated already, and see who donated, or how much has been donated.
We’ll treasure your donation like it was 100 times as much than you gifted, you can be sure about that.

And here I was thinking of translating it into Spanish…
Would there be any problem if I do a latin spanish translation? :/

  3. Beato says:

I have started the swedish translation. Don’t know if it will ever be of use to anyone since I haven’t seen a swedish scanlation group, but who knows?

Did almost whole Czech translation. When I was doing it I realized that I Should read some books in czech or I could fail my graduation exam…….. Or I could read some manga?……. To hell with School!

I’m including it in today’s release. I had the same feeling when translating to Italian: it’s really hard to translate, even if you know both English and your language well. It’s not just automatic, especially if you know English well enough to “think in English”.
Hell, I coded this and I had no idea how to translate some lines… I feel like the Italian translation sucks.

Now, being a Czech half-blood, I can stop using Italian FoOlSlide 8D

When you wrote that someone will actually use it then I just needed to fix it to 100%.
That reminded me how I tried to translate one chapter of manga and was thinking over 2 hours how to correctly translate one line.
        Translation is scary stuff :-D
