Alright, so I come up the escalators into the Devonshire concourse of Sydney Central station. I hear yelling from the suburban platform access subways and turn to see
four transit officers, two bogans (male) and one aboriginal (female). One of them is being herded by the transits and is yelling, while the other has a bleeding mouth and has obviously been smashed in the teeth. The aboriginal girl tails along, and is apparently the companion of the assailant.
So they herd the lot of them up to the wall near the telephone booth. The assailant starts going on about how the transits can't touch him 'because it's assault', which is scorned by the victim who points out (quite rightfully) that he had committed assault by punching him in the mouth.
The transits try to calm him down, the assailant. He's surrounded by four of them, and two are bloody beefy and another's buff (the one who was slimmer, shorter and less impressive was actually the leading one, and he was Asian - looked ethnic Korean). They also remind him that the entire fight was on the CCTV tapes. There's a lot of blathering going on, right, and the assailant decides he's had enough and wants out. So he tries to push through the four transits, who start grabbing his arms. He still tries to get through, with an almighty effort, which results in all four transits violently tackling him.
All five heavy male bodies collapse into a heap on the concourse floor. Sunglasses and other stuff fall off and scatter around. The transits lock the assailant's arm into a vicious twist/grip, and pin him to the floor. He is by now yelling string after string of obscenities.
I'm not quite sure what the abo girl was hollering on about, but I know for sure the victim was hanging around with his blood drying around his mouth and chin. The transits pin the guy for about another five minutes, whereupon the support calls shows up -
two state troopers in
full service gear. The coppers trigger another outburst from the assailant, and they shout right at him, pointing out that they had the tapes and that the tapes would screw him.
So the coppers cuff him, and generally the whole event calms down. The apparently-leading transit takes the victim aside for calming down and some questioning, while the coppers do the same for the abo girl. The assailant is sat, cuffed, against one of the pillars in the concourse, with the three beefy transits looming right over him.
Shortly after this, an ambulance pulls up outside the exit and two medics come down with bags of kit, to treat the guy whose mouth was bleeding from an almighty punch in the mouth, while the coppers ostensibly prepare to haul off the assailant to charge him with assault (and possibly resisting arrest - the victim yelled 'CHARGE HIM' several times, and later taunted, 'YA GONNA JAIL MATE').
By this point I'm narrating the entire event to some people who've just showed up and are wondering what on earth was going on. We decide the coppers and transits have it under control, have done their job admirably and that the bastard was going to be hauled off to face Her Majesty's justice.
Honestly, it's too early for this. 7:20pm on a Thursday, seriously?
