Manga Hosting Sites
« on: July 22, 2010, 09:50:12 AM »
Hey, i know it's been a long time since i last came back here
i'm probably not that well known either  :disappoint:

but i been busy with life...
anyways... i noticed like a vast majority of manga hosting sites are removing a ton of manga's due to the coalition against the sites. so i was wondering if anyone had suggestions as to what sites still host w/e n such

or other manga hosting sites

The main thrust has been against manga deemed "loli" or "shota".  A bunch of other stuff was temporarily removed as well, but it seems it's been restored for the most part.  This all happened just about the time the city of Tokyo was planning to ban works "depicting apparent minors engaging in sexual acts" and the timing was very suspicious.  Tokyo tabled the law until after this year's elections so we'll see what happens.

Google Ads was the main thrust behind the hosting sites pulling the manga.  They apparently said they would pull advertising from any site that promoted loli/shota work.  The hosting sites caved-in to the pressure and pulled the works.

Maybe Google Ads was behind the attempt to pass the Tokyo law as well.

I doubt the Japanese government is primarily sponsored by Google Ads.

Not impossible, I guess, but I doubt it.

Still, now that I have my anti-lynching gear prepared, I can admit that that law doesn't sound too bad to me.

Not the entire Japanese government, it was only the city of Tokyo's government considering the ban.  Akihabara and the manga houses in Tokyo would be affected, but any manga houses in, say, Kyoto would not.

Does that increase the likelihood of a sponsorship by Google Ads?

And I never specified the entire government, though perhaps it was a little unclear.

Yeah usually when you say, "the Japanese government", you're talking about the country's government.

I wasn't talking about H-manga either.  If it had kids and fanservice, it got dropped.  No ecchi (Japanese for "H") required.

I don't think he's talking about that. Onemanga is officially dying, mangatoshokan is pretty much dead, and who knows what's next.

Edit: Totally missed his last post. Mangafox is still up as of now, so that's where I'll be headed, then if that goes down, I'll be headed directly to dl and torrent sites. F-U coalition  :>

I don't like reading manga online, which is at least partly 'cause my connection is usually so slow that I couldn't read it fluently there.

Thus I'm downloading the stuff, usually directly from the scanlators. The only times I use Mangafox and such is for older manga where the team is already dead or the first chapters are no longer available. Because of this I'm not hit as hard from the dying manga hosters as many others may be.

Google Ads still sucks. :>

Well I'm the opposite of kage, I don't like downloading manga, and instead just view it online, and yeah, I had high hopes for mangatoshokan, but it seems that it's not possible at this moment..
