[Official] Diablo III Discussion thread
Vythcaex:
Can't do fresh Nightmare because I have nobody to boost my non-wizard character to 25 + final boss downed.
Gingy:
Hmmm....found something interesting about D3. Someone explain what skill runes are. Looking at their official site, I found that each skill also has a powered up form that let's the skills have additional effect or something.
Does that mean each skill have their own branching paths to upgrade into? If so, that's genuinely kinda cool and makes up for the fact that it did away with the skill tree in terms of allowing you to customize your character. The official website is as informative as a modern day game manual that you buy along with a game.
Also, how's customization in this game? My biggest gripe with D2 was how butt ugly the Paladin was. I hated everything about his appearance despite the fact that my strongest character was a Paladin. But I gave the game leeway because back then games didn't exactly offer much in the way of character customization beyond what gears you wore(and even then there wasn't much choice to choose from, you wear what's best on you, not what looks best).
Eos:
There are different skills/attacks you can select to use like say chain arrows (which are unlocked at level 5)
This is the base skill. Skill runes are improvements on the base skill. Okay so you have chain arrows, now you equip a skill rune. Now you have flaming chain arrows that do a bit more damage. Hope that helps.. Not too good at explaining things as you can see ;)
Meh:
Yeah, what Eos said
Runes are basically bonus abilities that your attack does
For example, a wizard's magic missile
There is a rune that gives it more damage
There is one that splits it into 3
And another one that gives it the ability to go through foes
You get the point
Gingy:
hmmm...that does make up for the removal of skill trees a little I guess...are runes fixed into a character and can never be removed again? That could be neat, because then you could make multiple characters of the same class.
So how's character creation? Is it D2's system or is it more modern(as in letting you change hair, eyes, skin, gender, etc.)
